Are You an Influencer? Here’s What You MUST Know!

Being an influencer in the UAE is more than just creating content — it’s considered a professional activity, and yes… it’s regulated!

Before you start collaborating with brands or earning through social media, make sure you’re legally compliant.

What You Need to Do:

Get an Influencer/Content Creator License From a Free Zone (like Dubai Media City, Ajman Free Zone, Fujairah Creative City) or the Department of Economy & Tourism (if Mainland).

Apply for an E-Media Permit (NMC Permit) Issued by the National Media Council (NMC) — compulsory if you are doing paid promotions, ads or brand endorsements.

If You’re Working With an Agency Either the agency should be licensed or you must still hold your own permit.

Renew Every Year Both license and media permit require annual renewal to stay compliant.

What Happens If You Don’t Have a License?

  • Heavy fines (up to AED 10,000)
  • Your content or pages may be suspended
  • Collaborations with brands can be legally restricted

Types of Licenses Available

  • Freelancer / Influencer License – Ideal for solo creators
  • Company License (LLC or Free Zone) – If you want to start an agency or register a brand name
  • E-Media Permit (NMC Permit) – Mandatory for anyone doing paid promotions or advertisements
